India allows for a marvellous reflection on Love. The complexity of this phenomenon becomes visible in the diverse layers of the saturated Indian culture. The film world provides a form of deliverance, which may seem full of contradictions, but portrays the melodramatic essence of subversive expression developed through its historical repression. Pinckers combines straight documentary images with staged scenes and abstract photographs into a dynamic narrative, ranging from a rescue organisation for young couples to cinematic tropes and visual interpretations of personal love stories. Pinckers collaborates with Gauthier Oushoorn on the introduction of sculptural forms and the presentation of photographs in light boxes. Oushoorn’s sculptures are self-referential to their materiality. Yet within the context of the photographic framework, the sculptures attain a different symbolic appeal, becoming subtle analogies of tension and desire.
